A child porn suspect faked his own death in an effort to avoid prosecution, according to Florida authorities.

John Charles Price, 49, of St. Johns County, was found and arrested last Wednesday (Dec. 3) by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Task Force after he was found at a State Road 40 store.
Price was released on $255,000 bond after his arrest. Three days before his court date, Price called 911 and said he had injured his shoulder while fishing under a bridge. Detectives believed Price made the call to fake his death to avoid prosecution.
Sheriff’s officials say they believe Price left that day and staged the boat accident as a hoax. They say no one saw Price having an emergency in a boat and no debris was found.
The U.S. Marshals Task Force got a tip that Price was alive and hiding out in campgrounds near Ocala National Forest. Investigators started watching the area and spotted Price at a hardware store.
He’s being held on an arrest warrant for failure to appear on 50 counts of possession of child pornography.
