A Florida crook was caught recently after crashing his getaway golf cart in a pond near the home he had just burglarized, authorities said.
When police officers in Lady Lake were dispatched to a golf cart partially submerged in a pond, they quickly discovered the unoccupied home nearby had just been burglarized. In fact, the house backs up to the pond and there were golf cart tracks in the front yard leading to the pond.
A little detective work traced the golf cart to 46-year-old Michael Hawk of Lady Lake. When cops visited the man’s home, they found a set of keys to the victim’s home, wet clothing and a stolen TV set.
Hawk was charged with burglary and grand theft and booked on a $7,000 bond.
