ORMOND BEACH, FLA. (Aug. 19, 2014 incident) — A Florida man who swiped a phone from a restaurant hostess was later caught when his girlfriend took a selfie of them with the stolen smartphone.
The photo showing suspect Bryce Dolph was automatically uploaded from the smartphone to the victim’s computer, and Ormond Beach police used the image to track down the 27-year-old man.
Authorities say the man and his juvenile-age girlfriend took it from a hostess at Bonefish Restaurant when they went there Aug. 19 to get a takeout order.
They walked out with the employee’s cellphone and then celebrared by taking several pictures of themselves to post on Facebook. Police say the pictures were also uploaded to the victim’s Google Plus account and she was able to pass them to police.
Police quickly tracked down Dolph and arrested him for contributing to delinquency or dependency of a minor and two counts of grand theft.
The juvenile girlfriend wasn’t arrested in this case. The couple told police they took the phone to support their drug habits.
