A Georgia shoplifter was caught when he called 911 on two Walmart security officers who were trying to stop him.

Alfonso Aguilar called 911 to report “thugs were trying to take him.” Those thugs were actually loss prevention officers trying to stop him from stealing on Jan. 25, police said.

Aguilar called 911 after running from the Gwinnett County Walmart. He told a dispatcher that he was looking at iPhone adapters when two men tried to grab him. He claimed he pulled out a knife to defend himself and got away.

But the security officers said Aguilar fled the store and they caught up to him and identified themselves. They said the shoplifting suspect pulled a knife and “swung his hands widely,” trying to slash them.

Police say Aguilar ran across the street to a Lowe’s parking lot and stashed what he stole around a box truck, according to police. The items were returned to loss prevention.

The man was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of crime.
