An Illinois college student was charged with sexually assaulting a female classmate, and the student’s defense was that he was simply re-enacting scenes from the film “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Mohammad Hossain, a 19-year-old student leader at the University of Illinois at Chicago, claims the sexual act was consensual.
The pair had been intimate before but weren’t dating. According to prosecutors, this is what happened:
They were at Hossain’s dorm February 21, 2015 when Hossain allegedly asked the woman to remove her clothes. She did but kept on her bra and underwear. Hossain bound her hands above her head and to a bed with a belt, used another belt to bind her legs and stuffed a necktie into her mouth.
Hossain covered her eyes with a knit cap and removed her bra and underwear. He then struck her with a belt but she told him to stop after several hits. She even shook her head and cried.
Hossain continued hitting the woman, using his fists as well. The woman managed to get one arm, and then another, free. But he then held her arms behind her back and sexually assaulted her as she continued to plead for him to stop.
Hossain’s roommate came home soon and the woman was able to leave and told another person what happened. She then called police.
Police arrested Hossain later that night in another dorm. He admitted assaulting the woman and “doing something wrong,” but argued he was replaying the movie scenes.
