An Oklahoma woman bird-napped a parrot from a pet store in St. Johns County Florida while in the store with her children, authorities said.
Dawn Christine Griman, 47, of Ada, was seen entering Pet World and leaving with a white-eyed conure parrot valued at $600. The store owner caught the incident on camera, showing the suspect opening the animal’s cage, grabbing the bird and then leaving with two boys.
Reports showed the woman and children entered a white or tan Cadillac Escalade, possibly with New York tags, and then drove away. On Friday April 10, 2015, police were notified of the vehicle traveling south on U.S. 1 and she was caught with the bird inside the vehicle.
Griman was booked with larceny into the St. John’s county jail and the bird was returned to the pet store. The conure was starving, according to the store owner, and ate for about an hour.
