Suspect Falls 17 Stories Down Denver Trash Chute

DENVER, CO. (Mid February 2014) —  Donnie Griffin 2A fugitive Denver man was captured last week after he fell 17 stories down a trash chute while running from police.

Donnie Griffin escaped last year from Texas where he was in federal custody on bank fraud charges.

U.S. Marshals tracked him down to an apartment in Denver last week but he didn’t go easily. As they broke down the door, they saw Griffin climbing down a sheet to the 19th floor. Marshalls caught up with him on the 17th floor, but the slippery fella was still moving.

Cornered, Griffin jumped in a trash chute and slid down the 17 floors to a painful conclusion.

He was taken to the hospital and treated before being taken in.

Agents found a lot more in his apartment that could get him in even more trouble. Marshals found various law enforcement badges scattered inside.

“We’re going to have to take a look to see whether or not he was impersonating law enforcement officers and that may be one of the reasons why he took such efforts to elude arrest,” said U.S. Marshal Kenneth Deal.
